Sans Maria is an aquatint with an obscured maria figure. The handmade chine colle paper is made up of three different women’s study bibles from rural ohio.
Fun Facts: I nearly lost a finger to this piece when my left index finger got chopped in a paper cutter alongside study bible #3. The project was delayed several months until i could submerge my hand in paper pulp safely. was god punishing me for critiquing the Catholic Church in my print practice? Probably a little.
Many thanks to my professors Melissa Haviland who finished chopping up the bibles for me and Karla Hackenmiller who accompanied me to the hospital and installed a guard on the guillotine paper cutter the following week. better late than never!
